According to foreign media reports, BMW Group, Daimler Group, Deutsche Telekom and Ericsson have urged the European Commission to support the C-V2X connected vehicle technology (that is, the cellular based Internet of Vehicles technology), so as to accelerate the promotion of 5G mobile networks in the European Union.

At the same time, EU executives are preparing to develop car standards for Internet connectivity. According to relevant forecasts, the valuation of the connected vehicle market is expected to reach billions of euros, which will bring new sources of revenue for telecom operators and equipment manufacturers.
BMW Group, Daimler Group, Deutsche Telekom and Ericsson Group said that C-V2 technology allows vehicles to connect to other network connected devices through cellular networks, which is better than the use of the ITS-G5 technology based on Wi Fi, and they believe that C-V2X technology will make European automobile manufacturers more competitive in the global market.
In a letter addressed to Jean Claude Juncker, President of the European Commission, and other European Commissioners, the above-mentioned company said that ITS-G5 would limit automobile manufacturers to a "technology unrelated to 5G except for its name, and certainly there was no way to make it compatible with 5G technology". In addition, they also pointed out: "In China and the United States, C-V2X is becoming a powerful technical alternative to C-ITS (Cooperative Intelligent Transportation System). Compared with such countries or regions, the EU is at an economic disadvantage."
In addition to BMW, Daimler, Deutsche Telekom and Ericsson, the signatories of this letter also include Ford, Huawei, Intel, Qualcomm, Nokia, SAIC, Samsung, Savari, PSA Group, Spain Telecom and Vodafone. The European Commission confirmed receipt of the letter. In addition, the Commission plans to propose legislation on this issue before the end of this year and hopes to use 5G technology to promote its cross-border trade.
